Dr. Hugen is a board-certified urologic oncologist specializing in bladder cancer, kidney cancer, adrenal tumors, prostate cancer, testes cancer, retroperitoneal tumors, urologic oncology, and open and robotic surgery.
- Dr. Hugen served as a urologist in the United States Air Force, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal
- During his fellowship, he received the Fellowship Teaching Award while working toward a master’s degree in biomedical, clinical, and translational investigations
Dr. Hugen earned his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago, where we graduated cum laude. He completed his internship and residency training in the same location, where he also received the Traveling Fellowship Award for the best research project by a young urologist at the North Central Section American Urology Association’s annual meeting. After completing his residency, Dr. Hugen served as a urologist in the United States Air Force for four years. Next, he completed a Society of Urologic Oncology fellowship at the University of Southern California before joining the UC Irvine Health faculty.
Roles & Memberships:
Dr. Hugen has presented his research at numerous national meetings and in many publications and book chapters. He is a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology, the Southwest Oncology Group, the American Urological Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Additionally, he is a diplomate of the American Board of Urology.
